Boston, MA
Our assignment was to bring the 1960's lobby of this 200,000 square foot office building in line with modern aesthetics, incorporating contemporary design and materials with the best of the original. We restored the existing walnut paneling, but replaced the brick floor with black granite softened by carpeting in the main traffic areas. Acoustic ceiling tiles were banished in favor of plaster and recessed incandescent lighting. The elevators were upgraded with wood panels trimmed with stainless steel and polished brass. Potted trees and furniture were selected with a present day sensibility, so that the occupants no longer feel as if they are passing through the first Nixon administration every time they cross the lobby.
