Boston, MA
Our assignment for one of the largest office buildings in downtown Boston consisted of adding the final touches to the spacious lobby. Soaring ceilings are dramatic but they can have a dwarfing effect, the same with boldly marbled floors which can seem to swallow up passers by, so to make the atrium a relaxing and comfortable environment, we chose lobby furnishings on a human scale but which had enough character of their own to stand up to their surroundings. Then we worked with a consultant to choose expressive artwork that could hold its own on the walls, and invite the contemplation of visitors. As always, the good craftsmanship of wood goes a long way to evoke a sense of well-being, so we coordinated with specialists to sheathe the cappuccino bar, concierge desk, and shoeshine chair in cherry paneling. An excellent sound system completes the welcoming introduction to the building.
